On Friday, July 25, 2008, deputies responded to the area of Washington and Van Buren reference found explosives. The Riverside County Sheriff's Hazardous Device Team responded. They determined that there were old, abandoned, explosives located in a field. A 500 foot radius was cleared. There was no need to evacuate residences. Some nearby businesses were evacuated for a short period of time causing minimal impact to the businesses.
The California Highway Patrol assisted with the road closure of Van Buren and Washington in the immediate area. Traffic was stopped only for the time necessary to render the explosives safe.
