One way to achieve smaller city government

The Daily Bulletin's Andrea Bennett wrote that the city of Ontario has deleted 25 positions from the city's budget for 2008-2009.

However, no current city employee will lose his or her job, according to Ontario City Manager Greg Devereaux. 17 vacant positions will not be filled, and 8 people will be shifted to other jobs.

Most of the deleted positions, according to Bennett, are in development services - since there is less development at the moment. A Los Angeles Times blog noted:

A financial analyst fresh from a tour of construction sites in the Inland Empire is warning Wall Street of a "ghost town" where finished homes sit vacant and additional homes are still under construction.

Unlike the Specials' ghost town, the LA Times' "IE ghost town" has more desert.
